Research

The Centre for Mechanised Mining Systems supports Wits' purpose to be a research intensive university. Research, in the form of projects supported by the industry and carried out with the involvement of postgraduate students is currently being undertaken by the Centre in areas where gaps exist in current knowledge relating to mechanisation.

The Centre is a vehicle for research, teaching (particularly at postgraduate level) and contract research for staff within the Schools of Mechanical, Aeronautical and Industrial Engineering, and Mining Engineering, as well as other schools with interests in all forms of mechanisation.

In addition we are helping to facilitate the recruitment of greater numbers of postgraduate students and are establishing new links with numerous overseas universities and research organisations.
